As one of the Atlantic coast’s most popular surfing destinations, the borough attracts a lively crowd and Belmar hosts numerous events throughout the year including a mid-summer Professional Volleyball Tournament that adds to the appeal of this summer destination spot.

Belmar prides itself on the accessibility of our beaches. Whether you’re just pushing a stroller or you have friend or family member with special needs, please take a moment to read about the facilities and services Belmar offers to make getting on the beach easy. For the environmentally minded, Belmar offers a natural beach, where colorful educational signs will describe the various types of plant life and birds nearby. If you look carefully in the sand, you may even find a prehistoric shark tooth. And if you enjoy history, be sure to stop by the educational display on the boardwalk near 9th Avenue, which will point you to the wreck of the SS Malta, which foundered off 9th Avenue during a storm on November 24, 1885. The stern post of the ship can still be seen above the surface offshore, and the foremast of the ship is located on land nearby.
