One of the largest cities on the Jersey Shore, Long Branch was very glamorous in its early days as it attracted many wealthy New Yorkers, as well as more notorious adventurers like Diamond Jim Brady and Lily Langtree. Presidents Grant, Hayes, Harrison, McKinley, Wilson and Garfield all summered in Long Branch. During the 1920s, Long Branch declined in its popularity due to gambling laws restricting this popular past time.
Today Long Branch is enjoying a rebirth. Residents enjoy the perks of living in an oceanfront community with easy access to the city, an expansive beach area with boardwalk, and 33-acre Seven Presidents Oceanfront Park with facilities for swimming, boating and picnicking. There is also a large selection of outstanding restaurants as well as a lively nightlife for the young and hip – or the young at heart!
Many of the former beachfront cottages have been replaced by luxury high-rise beach condos. There is a large choice of affordable, mature single family bungalows, and small Long Branch homes a short distance from the ocean. Many of these, however, have been replaced by new builds, or extensive restorations, complete with all the bells and whistles.
Convenient local train and bus transit quickly connects Long Branch residents to New York City and Northern New Jersey.
